Four Walls

Today was incredible as we placed our four fully framed walls on our trailer.  With help from family and friends we were able to complete this task in a few hours.  The time lapse video we took makes in look like a piece of cake, but between leveling, squaring, and placing braces it was quite a day! Stay tuned for the link that will be on our youtube channel!

We can’t wait to continue our build!

The Build

Today we rented a framing nailer from the Denver Tool Library and began creating the walls for our house.  It was a lot of fun and very exciting to see the structure coming together so quickly.

Lily will be interning at LightHouse Writing Center tomorrow and I will continue to frame the remanding two walls of the house.

Approved!

We are overjoyed to share with you that our proposal has formally been approved!  We found out this morning from Laura Hutchinson, Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students, that our proposal was part of the senior staff’s agenda last week in which they were able to talk through concerns.  Their conversation was positive as Laura was able to enthusiastically tell us this morning that we have been exempted from on-campus living requirements for the 2016-17 academic year!  We will officially be living in our tiny house for our senior year at Earlham College.

We are both still in a bit of shock after receiving this news as we were not expecting Laura to share this with us when we set up our meeting with her for this morning.  Although, I do have to say that it was the best surprise I have ever received and has made for a very happy Wednesday!

We cannot stop smiling!

With love,

Abby and Lily

Moving Forward

Hello!

We are still waiting to hear a final response about our proposal, but in the mean time we are continuing to do are research.  As we finalize our floor plan, we are looking for help with drafting a three-dimensional model of our tiny house.  If you would like to reach out to us for help in this process we would be grateful! Or with any other ideas or guidance!  We are continuing to meet with numerous faculty and staff on campus to relieve any concerns and answer any question in the effort to push our proposal forward.

The good news is that Abby’s self-designed internship has formally been approved! We are very excited about this as it will contribute to funding for purchasing materials for the construction.  We are also setting up a Kickstarter (link to be provided shortly)!  If you would like to contribute to our build, even a small amount, we would be very grateful!

We hope you have a lovely week!

Best,

Abby and Lily
